Video: “How Nature’s Got Your Back”

Summer is a great time to talk about and enjoy nature with your children. This summer is certainly different from what we are used to, but it still provides plenty of time to get outside together.

Author and environmentalist Elin Kelsey has written several children’s books that incorporate nature into their stories, including You Are Never Alone, with illustrator Soyeon Kim. The book shows readers that even when they feel alone, they are surrounded by and supported by nature. Its appeal is especially relevant right now, when children may feel fearful of all that is going on in the world around them.

The author, along with OwlKids, has made a short video for children, entitled “How Nature’s Got Your Back”:

Join us on our Facebook page this afternoon, Thursday July 16, at 2 p.m. EST for a live children’s event! Award-winning author Vashi Harrison will discuss her Little Leaders children’s book series with a Q & A session afterwards.

Ms. Harrison will also talk about the inspiration for her work, her process in researching and writing about the trailblazing women in her books, and her intricate and playful illustrations.

The Hudson Library is partnering with PBS Books to offer this live program to our patrons, in conjunction with PBS’s “Trailblazing Women for Kids” summer-long celebration in honor of the women’s vote centennial.

“Exquisite” Author Event on Facebook Live Today

Join us on our Facebook page this afternoon, Thursday June 4, at 2 p.m. EST for a live children’s event! Author Suzanne Slade and illustrator Cozbi A. Cabrera will read aloud and discuss their children’s book Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks with a Q & A session afterwards.

“Drawn Together” on Facebook Live Today

Join us on our Facebook page this afternoon, Thursday May 21, at 3:30 p.m. EST for a live children’s event! Author Minh Lê and illustrator Dan Santat will read and discuss their award-winning children’s book Drawn Together.

The Hudson Library is partnering with PBS Books to offer this live program to our patrons.

Lê and Santat will provide fun behind-the-scenes insights into their art and their process, as well as interact with viewers during a Q&A session. No registration is needed for this Facebook Live event.
